The / commands

A message that starts with / is treated as a command and not sent as text. Typing / in the writing area opens the menu of commands (the ones you may use, with their description).

How it works

A message that starts with / is treated as a command and not sent as text. Typing / in the writing area opens the menu of commands (the ones you may use, with their description). The names of the options are accepted in French and in English.

The commands that come with the add-on are:
CommandPurposeFrench shortcuts
/cleardelete the messages of the room/vider
/purgedelete the messages of a member/purger
/banban a member from the room/bannir
/unbanlift the ban of a member/debannir

/clear

Code
/clear [count] [before:date] [since:date] [until:date]
Deletes the messages of the room: all of them, the last N, or those of a period. Dates are given as a relative duration (1h, 24h, 7d, 2w) or as a date.
  • /clear: all the messages (within the limit of 2,000 per run).
  • /clear 20: the last 20 messages.
  • /clear since:24h: everything written in the last 24 hours.
  • /clear before:7d: everything older than 7 days.
The messages are marked as deleted (they are not wiped from the database). The command never touches what was written after the summary was displayed.

/purge

Code
/purge user:NAME [before:date] [since:date] [until:date]
Deletes the messages of a single member in this room, all of them or those of a period. Same limit of 2,000 messages, same rule about the summary. Example: /purge user:Mary since:1h.

/ban

Code
/ban user:NAME [duration:7d] [reason:text]
Bans the member from the room: they no longer see it and cannot write in it. Without duration, the ban is permanent; permanent works too. Suggested durations: 1h, 24h, 7d, 30d. You cannot ban yourself, nor a member who is already banned. Example: /ban user:Paul duration:7d reason:insults.

/unban

Code
/unban user:NAME
Lifts the ban. No confirmation is asked.

Confirmation, announcement, delay

Depending on the configuration of each command (4.5):
  • Confirmation: by default, /clear, /purge and /ban first show a summary (for example 12 messages will be deleted from this room. or NAME will be banned from this room for 7d.) with the Confirm and Cancel buttons. Nothing is done before you click. /unban runs directly.
  • Announcement: once the command has run, a note is shown in the room (NAME deleted 12 messages., NAME banned NAME2 from this room.…). It disappears by itself after an adjustable delay; the trace always stays in the moderation log.
  • Delay between two uses: /clear and /purge ask you to wait 5 seconds between two runs (Please wait N seconds before using this command again.).
Each run is written in the XenForo moderation log (entry Chat command "…").

Managing bans

The bans of a room can be viewed from the chat: if you have View the list of bans of a room, a Bans button (crossed-out user icon) appears in the header of the room and opens the list; with Edit and lift the bans of a room, you can edit or lift a ban from there. The administrator also has the Chat bans page in the ACP. A ban has a member, a room, an end date (or Permanent) and an author.
